Abilty and confidence class |
|
Confidence and ability -. See below to sign up or for further information. At this time this class is not offered in a group setting but as private one on one sessions with the dog and handler. Contact us for available days and times.
This will be a foundation class introducing the fundamentals of focus, reward placement and timing, general confidence on different surfaces with and without movement, discussion and exercises on shaping behavior, clicker and/or marker training, targeting and introduction to low equipment and body awareness. This is a marvelous start to progress toward many different disciplines with the opportunity to continue on after this class to more advance agility skills for the dog and handler. Classes are held in group settings, however dog and handler teams are frequently on the field one at a time to promote focus and avoid distractions.
At the end of the class teams may opt to take the AKC Trick Dog Test on the last day of class https://www.akc.org/sports/trick-dog/.
Meet the instructor
Your instructor will be Terry Fisk of Phelan, CA. Terry is a long time competitor in agility and conformation shows with her Australian Shepherds and has been involved in Schutzhund since 2001 with German Shepherd dogs. She is a CGC Evaluator, agility and certified K9 Nose Work instructor, two time member of the SchH3 Club and successfully competes and titles in Rally Obedience and Barn Hunt as well. Terry continues to further her training skills by attending seminars with noted trainers in many disciplines.
Location
Phelan, California - Classes are currently forming for mid-week evenings. The facility is completely fenced and illuminated for evening classes. Visitors are welcome to observe prior to enrolling but please contact us for a time to introduce ourselves
Who may enroll?
Any dog (regardless of sex, height or breed) that is in good physical condition and over 4 months of age is welcome to enroll in our class. In order to maintain your dog's physical health we stress the importance of good physical conditioning (dogs being over weight or with major structural faults are not good candidates). Young dogs whose growth plates are not fully closed may suffer permanent damage from strenuous training. However, our sessions are age appropriate and tailored to accommodate individuals age and physical requirements.
Aggressive dogs:
We will eventually be performing many exercises off leash. If your dog is reactive toward other dogs or people, and/or has a tendency to run off, we will require that he/she remain on leash until a reasonable amount of control has been obtained. For everyone's safety, extremely aggressive or uncontrollable dogs, dogs and/or handlers that threaten the safety of other students and/or their dogs will be removed from class without a refund.
Females in season: females in season are easily distracted and also distract other dogs. If your female comes in season, at the instructors discretion the dog may attend if they wear britches designed specifically for dogs in season..
Prerequisites: * Have reasonable off leash control * Ability to be handled by a stranger * Social around other dogs and people. Unfortunately we can not accommodate dogs with human or dog aggression.
